Cathy Parker

Cathy Parker’s interest in sewing started when she was in second grade and inherited her grandmother’s treadle sewing machine. Her dolls were well dressed! She became an accomplished garment maker during her school years. Cathy had always wanted a quilt, so she decided to make her own in the 1980s and started with an Eleanor Burn’s Quilt in Day Log Cabin. She didn’t get it done in a day, but she’s been quilting ever since. Cathy has been a long-time member of Memory Makers Quilt Guild and KISS Quilt Guild in the Akron Ohio area. Cathy has won several awards at local quilt shows including a Judge’s Choice at Stan Hywet Needlework Guild show. Cathy has tried almost any quilting technique you can imagine, but likes the ones that lead to completed quilts the best. Cathy has led many workshops and mini-groups at her guilds and has taught at NEORQC Getaway Retreat as well as Quilt Camp at Cedar Lakes. Cathy boasts 9 grandchildren who call her “Sewma.” Yes, they have many quilts and had cute matching outfits from Sewma when they were little (not long enough).
