Stash Buster String Quilts
Cathy Parker
This is a Level 1 Class. It teaches basic use of needed tools, as well as proper thread tension, stitch size, and seam allowance consistency – appropriate for true beginners. For all levels of quilt camper, little prior knowledge of quiltmaking techniques are needed in this class.
This class will be fun, fun, fun while we explore color and value and ways to make a scrappy quilt come together into a pleasing whole. You determine size you would like to make, from baby or lap to king size. Some of the things you will learn:
• Helpful cutting techniques
• Determining value
• Foundation piecing
• To sash or not to sash
• Making friends with bias edges
• Best practices to keep your quilt square
Students should have time to make many blocks and may finish a quilt top (but probably not a king size!)
Materials / Templates / Rulers Needed: Square ruler 8 ½” to 12 ½” square. This can easily be a stash buster class. One yard of center fabric strips should be enough for a good size quilt. Foundation fabric or paper. No special book or pattern needed. Fabric can be cut into strips 1” – 2” wide and 6” to 42” long. It will be helpful for each student (or perhaps two can share) an iron close to their work station. I will offer the opportunity to swap strips in class if students are interested.
Think string quilts are boring? Think again – these can be so creative. Take a look and get inspired - https://pin.it/3eZzkeY
