209 Quilt Camp Memories
Wednesday & Thursday
Hand : Applique
Nothing says "welcome back to Quilt Camp" like the historic covered bridge at the entrance. This appliqued picture will remind you of fun and friends all year long. Kelly's original design features a country look highlighted with embroidery and inked accents that add dimension. Learn to applique using the needleturn method, accomplish invisible stitches and create inked accents. Make it your own special memory by having your friends sign it.
Kit Fee: $10.00. Kit includes Pattern and all fabrics to complete the project as shown!
Kelly has been interested in quilts since she slept under them as a child at her great aunt's house in Pennsylvania, but did not begin making them until her retirement from the United States Navy Nurse Corps in 1992. She promised herself she would learn to quilt and bake bread when she retired so she signed up for a beginning quilting class at the local fabric store. She realized she LOVED cutting up perfectly good pieces of fabric into tiny pieces for applique, so she took the sage advice of her new quilting buddies, bought a bread making machine and has lots of time for quilting!
Her quilts have received numerous awards and her work has appeared in books by Elly Sienkiewicz, Mimi Dietrich and Jeanne Sullivan. She has been a guest artist at The Applique Academy in Williamsburg, Virginia and the featured lecturer at Baltimore on the Prairie, an applique seminar in Lincoln, Nebraska. As an active member of the American Quilt Study Group she is involved in researching historic quilts.
Hand piecing, applique and quilting are her favorite methods of creating heirlooms for friends and family. Passing these traditional techniques along to others though out her 15 years of teaching is her passion.
